What’s up Domus! My name is Kawsar Yasin and I am so happy to be back with the Eliot community. I was born and raised in Texas, so the American South is a dear home for me! Currently, I am a first year master’s student with the Regional Studies – East Asia Program where I will be studying twentieth century Uyghur intellectual history and Central Asian Islam.

I graduated from Harvard College in spring 2026 where I completed a joint concentration in History and Social Anthropology, a secondary in Ethnicity, Migration, Rights, and earned a language citation in Uyghur. During my undergraduate years, I was a member of the Eliot House community where I worked at the grille and organized programming surrounding Ramadan, Eid, and Nowruz (which I hope to continue doing as a non-resident tutor!). I am happy to talk about the thesis process, applying to graduate school, and student organizing!

Outside of classes, you can find me choreographing Uyghur cultural dances, planning Nowruz celebrations with other Central Asian students, painting pictures of my friends, picnicking by the Charles, organizing with the Boston Uyghur Association, and mentoring high school students.

FDDE!
