Nicolas Prevelakis
Hello Eliot! I’m a political philosopher and sociologist teaching in the Social Studies program at Harvard and Faculty associate at the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies. I also serve as Associate Director for Curricular Development at the Center for Hellenic Studies, where I run a teaching internship in political philosophy that lets Harvard College students teach Greek high school students (feel free to reach out if that sounds like something you’d enjoy!). I have a Ph.D. in Moral and Political Philosophy from the University of Paris-Sorbonne and another in Political Sociology from Boston University.
My research looks at how modern ideas about the self shape our political and moral life, especially through nationalism, religion, and global interdependence. I’ve written on the history of political thought, the relationship between religion and politics in modern societies, and the role of fear in contemporary politics. I’m also a Senior Fellow at the Institut Montaigne in Paris, where I contribute to discussions on liberalism and democracy.
I enjoy walks in the city, all sorts of ice cream, and fun conversations over backgammon 🙂
